Dan's Film Festival Schedule

I've got a love-hate relationship with film festivals. I love the opportunity to see so many incredible films that typically wouldn't get wide distribution in the Midwest. I hate film festivals because invariably, there are three films showing concurrently at three different venues between which I need to choose. For those of you in a similar circumstance, I'll offer you my picks for the various festivals I attend. Hopefully you'll find it helpful.

Milwaukee International Film Festival
Milwaukee, WI, October 21 - 31, 2004
UPDATE: 10-11-2004

OK, I'm really excited about this year's festival. Johnathan Jackson is doing programming again, and they've expanded the calendar, with films starting earlier in the day then they did last year. This is, of course, a happy windfall for me. Last year, I was in seventh heaven seeing 32 films in ten days. This year, I've been able to select 38 to see. Click here for a list of what I'm seeing and where I'm going to be. I'm working as the festival photographer again this year, have passes, and if there's something you want to see or a party you want to attend that I'm alsogoing to be at, gimme a holler and I'll set you up. First come first serve, and if anyone asks, you're my "assistant" whose duties include holding seats while I take pictures in the lobby. I'll be updating my running commentary as I see them throughout the festival.

Nothing new on the horizon at the moment.

Milwaukee International Film Festival
Milwaukee, WI, November 6 - 16, 2003
UPDATE: 11-16-2003

Thanks to everyone who came out and saw movies with me, and even if we didn't hook up at the theater, thanks for supporting independent film in Milwaukee. If you care to, see my comments about films I saw.

The festival was a roaring success, with attendance figures around 150% of what festival organizers had hoped for. The Oriental Theater sold out twice, the first time since the renovation in the 80s. Special kudos to Jonathan Jackson, who did a kick-ass job of programming this year's festival, and Rubina Shafi, whose tireless efforts made everything happen.

Wisconsin Film Festival
Madison, WI, April 1 - 4, 2004
UPDATE: 04-06-2004

Thanks to everyone who came out and saw movies. I had a blast, despite some not-so-great films. This year's festival didn't have films as consistently wonderful as they have been in past years; not sure what's up with that.

If you care to, see my comments about films I saw.
