From time to time, a movie will come along that everyone needs to see (IMHO). I've got a group of friends with whom I discuss art, music and/or movies on a regular basis. When one of these movies comes up, they get a personal e-mail invitation (not an eVite...yet) with time, place, date, and some interesting tidbits about the movie. Sometimes I'm there alone, sometimes there's a group of us, but it's always a fun time.

Peeping Tom
Hello, everyone...
Next Wednesday, October 22nd, Peeping Tom is playing on the big screen at UWM's Union Cinema beginning at 8pm.
This is one of my favorite movies, and although it was made in 1960, the subject matter and themes are probably more appropriate to today's audiences. In 1960 though, it was contoversial enough to ruin the director's career. With shades of Hitchcock and DePalma, and set design more suitable to a Mary Poppins-style Technicolor extravaganza, this enduring classic of suspense cinema is definitely worth seeing on the big screen.
"This is a deeply disturbing, shocking but very interesting & serious study of scopophilia and terror. This film could not be regarded as an attempt at titilation (as was wrongly assumed by some critics when it was released) but is a study of a deeply disturbed person." --Steve Crook
Let me know if you're planning on being there (or not) so we can watch for you (or not) in the lobby of the theater. If you need directions, let me know...I can provide that as well.

Juliet of the Spirits
Hello, everyone...
Tomorrow, October 29th, Juliet of the Spirits is playing on the big screen at UWM's Union Cinema beginning at 8pm. Only $5.00 (less for students and alumni), popcorn and snacks are student-priced, parking at the Union is plentiful (and cheap).
Personally, I think this is Fellini's finest work, and the surreal imagery throughout the film is a joy to watch. I've never seen it on the big screen, and am *really* looking forward to that experience.
"Juliet lives in a beautiful house by the ocean. Her sisters, and especially her Mother overshadow her with their beauty. She is a spiritual, superstious and naive woman. She visits a psychic seer who tells her she must follow the sex trade in order to be happy. Not long after she meets her eccentric and sexy neighbour, Suzy, who, by all counts appears to be a high class prostitute and encourages Juilet into sexual acts which make her guilty and nervous. A rare night when her husband is at home she wakes up to catch him talking to another woman on the phone. He calls out the name "Gabriella" while sleeping, but when she questions him he lies his way out of it. She finds out who Gabriella is and fears her husband will leave her. Juliet begins having visions who accuse and terrorise her. The pinnacle of the visions comes at the end where it is implied she realises she would be better off without her husband and is ultimately emotionally mancipated." --K. Wedgwood

Milwaukee International Independent Film Festival
Hello, everyone!
A number of you have asked for recommendations and picks in the upcoming Milwaukee International Independent Film Festival. I have posted my movie-going schedule (as well as links to official festival schedules and information) here.
Rather than sending out thirty-two individual e-mails (yes, I am seeing thirty-two films in ten days) about films over over the next few weeks, consider this a blanket invitation. If you're already planning to attend any of the screenings, or think you might be up for some movie-going goodness over the run of the festival, get in touch with me and we can meet up in the lobby or something or another.

Milwaukee Film Festival Update
Hello, everyone!
The festival's been going great, and to those of you who've been coming out in support of independent film, THANKS! My panel was well attended and well recieved, I've seen some incredible films, and got to meet Traci Lords at the "Chump Change" afterparty. I've updated my festival page to include my running commentary on the films I've seen so far, as well as a few minor schedule changes.
Since my last update, I've been hired as the photo documentarian for the festival, and as part of my compensation package, I got a festival pass that I can use to bring a guest to the screenings and parties. What does this mean for you? If there's something on my list that you want to see, I can get you in for free...first come, first served, one admission per show...just let me know in advance.
Take care,
Dan
